Lifelong learning benefits health

When you think about living a healthy lifestyle, it’s no surprise that many tend to think about eating right or staying physically active. The mind is probably one of the last areas that you focus your efforts. However more and more studies are showing that when it comes to your health, the mind is one of the most powerful muscles to train in order to see long term results. But how do you train your brain?

The answer is through lifelong learning. Whether you read a book or take a class, learning has been linked to improving your mental acuity, boosting your self-esteem, and enhancing your career path. In today’s dynamic economy, adaptation has become essential in the workplace. Workers who are lifelong learners can master new skills and maneuver outside of their comfort zone to keep their career moving forward. However many find it difficult to make time in their busy schedules to expand their knowledge or skillset, especially those with stable jobs. Because of this, organizations have started to invest in Learning Management Systems to bring the classroom directly to their workforce.

A Learning Management System has several benefits to both employers and employees. First, the training administrators can streamline the training process to plan, share, and evaluate results to determine the overall success of the training. Secondly because people learn in different ways, the LMS allows employers to offer a variety of learning approaches including face to face, online, and mobile to a large number of learners at any location. Training is no longer limited to seating capacity, location, or department. This means learning can be more consistent and standardized.

Employees benefit from the Learning Management System because they now have flexible training programs available anytime, anywhere. They are no longer hindered by time or location restrictions. These trainings can be offered in a variety of media formats including HTML courses, videos, and podcasts which can offer an engaging learning experience to each user. Finally employees now have the ability to gain access to a wealth of learning modules to boost their knowledge base, making them far better candidates for being promoted within the company.

TVH implemented a Learning Management System in 2013, with the goal of focusing on three major areas: consistent on-the-job training, expanding curriculum offered, and succession planning. In the first year alone, more than 500 employees took advantage of the new system TVH Connect, and participated in at least one of the curriculum available. Today, TVH Connect boasts more than 400 programs at all 10 locations across the Americas, but the benefits don’t stop there. The performance cloud also includes other useful tools that help you expand your career perspectives. Just by keeping an employee profile up-to-date, the user strongly increase the visibility of their career aspirations. It is a quick and easy way to display personal goals on a professional level, which allows TVH to promote within and continue succession planning for the future.
